Roseau, Dominica (October 18, 2024) The Old Oven Art Gallery at the Fort Young Hotel announces this special solo art exhibition by Dominican artist Francilia Schofeld Agar. Entitled “I Am Kalinago,” this powerful collection celebrates Agar’s Kalinago heritage and the stunning natural beauty of Dominica, offering a truly immersive cultural experience.
Opening on October 19 to run until December 18, 2024, “I Am Kalinago” features a series of original paintings that pay tribute to the history, traditions, and vibrant spirit of the Kalinago people. Through “I Am Kalinago,” Agar invites audiences to experience the legacy of her ancestors, the frst inhabitants of the island, and to gain a deeper understanding of the Kalinago people’s enduring connection to the land, sea, and traditions. The works on display are inspired by the lush landscapes of Dominica, the enduring symbolism of the Kalinago heritage, and the artist’s personal journey of identity and pride.
“At Fort Young Hotel, we are deeply committed to celebrating and preserving the rich culture of Dominica, especially during our Independence celebrations,” said Gregor Nassief, CEO of GEMS Holding Ltd. “We are honoured to feature Francilia’s work, which so beautifully expresses our Kalinago heritage and we are equally excited to share this cultural experience with our guests and the wider community.”
About the Artist: Francilia Schofeld Agar is multi talented, having excelled in music in Dominica and internationally. She currently has her own music studio with over 70 private students in fute, piano and kindermusic classes. Francilia is also the frst Kalinago Carnival Queen, winning the title in 1991, and has also represented Dominica in swimming in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
