DALLAS, USA — The former Dallas police officer who fatally shot a Saint Lucian man, Botham Jean, in his own apartment in September, was indicted on a murder charge on Friday.

Amber Guyger, 30, was booked on Friday and quickly released on a $200,000 bond.

A Dallas County grand jury handed down the indictment against Guyger after weighing the evidence against her last week.

Guyger had initially been arrested on a manslaughter charge, three days after the September 6, 2018, shooting.

When Jean, 26, was killed, he had been watching football in his apartment directly above Guyger’s. Guyger, who had just finished her shift, entered and shot him.

She told authorities she had mistaken Jean’s apartment for her own and believed he was a burglar.

Jean, who grew up in Saint Lucia, came to the US to attend Harding University in Arkansas and later moved to Dallas for a job at PwC as an accountant. He had hoped one day to return to Saint Lucia and run for political office.
