Dominica’s Improv Comedy Group Returns With a Brand-New Show This June

What happens when a wedding goes wrong, a manicou gets kidnapped, or aliens land at a favourite Roseau restaurant?

Nobody knows yet – not even the performers.

That’s because Mission Improvable, Dominica’s first improv comedy group, creates every scene live on stage based entirely on audience suggestions. No scripts, no rehearsed storylines, and no two shows ever the same.

On Friday 5th June, the group returns for another evening of improvised theatre, bringing together comedy, drama and unexpected twists, in a fast-paced performance where the audience helps shape the story in real time.

Improvised theatre is a form of live performance where actors create characters, dialogue, and entire scenes on the spot. The result is often hilarious, sometimes surprisingly emotional, and always unpredictable. In an improv show, the audience isn’t just watching the show, they’re helping create it.

Mission Improvable was formed in 2024 as part of the Waitukubuli Artist Association and has quickly become known for its energetic and interactive performances. The group has appeared at events including Rhythm & Rhymes/Xpression at Ka Tai, Lyrics Under the Stars, Waitucirque Festival Nou Sé Histoire, Jazz and Arts 2026, and several sold-out independent shows at the UWI Auditorium. The last show in April featured a murder mystery, in which six characters chosen by the audience figured out which of them had committed murder out of revenge for a love triangle gone wrong.

This upcoming performance will feature a mix of classic fast-paced improv games and a mystery story about saving the group’s kidnapped mascot, Malik the Manicou. Will they find him and bring the kidnapper to justice? No one knows yet!

“Improv is exciting because anything can happen,” said Sonja Wiencke, founder of Mission Improvable. “The audience is part of the experience from beginning to end. One suggestion can suddenly turn into an entirely new performance on stage. That spontaneity is what makes every show unique.”

Performer Jaleel Ahiwa added, “You never really know where a scene is going to end up. Sometimes we surprise each other as much as we surprise the audience. That unpredictability is what makes improv so fun.”

Whether you’ve seen improv before or are completely new to it, Mission Improvable promises an evening filled with laughter, creativity, and the kind of moments that could only happen once.

“I didn’t expect to laugh that much,” said audience member Hannah G after Mission Improvable’s performance at Jazz and Arts. “The performers acting out improvised scenes of a manicou and peacock fighting were hilarious”.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
