| THE WAITUKUBULI ARTISTS ASSOCIATION is elated to announce that the Annecy Film Festival, the most important Animation Film Festival in the world, selected one film from Dominica as part of their official selection in competition. “Equity in the Workplace, The Experience of Black Irish Women in Academia and the Teaching Profession” by WAA member Sandra Vivas, is one of the 66 films in the TV and Commissioned Films category and the only one selected from the Caribbean Region. |
| About her selection, Vivas said: “I feel so privileged to be the first from Dominica to be in this incredible festival, it puts Dominica and the Caribbean Region on the map of animation and I am sure I won’t be the last, we have so much talent, so many stories that need to be told here in Dominica!” |
| The Festival takes place each June in Annecy, France, and is the oldest festival in the world dedicated entirely to animation. Last year, it was attended by over 18,000 people. |
| The film’s script was written by Dr. Ebun Joseph, CEO & Founder of the Institute of Antiracism and Black Studies in Ireland. Vivas, who has a long career as an artist in Venezuela, as well as Dominica, met Dr., Joseph in Ireland and it was Vivas’ husband, who suggested that the two women collaborate in making an animated short about Joseph’s book of the same name. Vivas has directed 5 other short films, 3 of which are animated. Post-production was done in Venezuela by Lisandro Castro, who undertook the effects, colour correction, and sound design. |
