Dominica to Host International FIDE-Rated Chess Tournament This August

Roseau, Dominica — August 2025 — The Dominica Chess Federation has opened registration for an upcoming international chess tournament that will be officially rated by the International Chess Federation (FIDE). The Chess Hybrid Tournament will take place on 16–17 August 2025 at Dominica State College, and is open to players of all ages, genders, and skill levels.

The event will be held in hybrid format as part of the Hybrid Circuit of the Americas, bringing together participants from across the Caribbean and Latin America in a coordinated tournament, with rounds played at the same scheduled times in multiple countries. The format ensures international engagement while maintaining local in-person play under the supervision of certified arbiters.

The tournament will follow a 6-round Swiss system with a time control of 60 minutes plus 30 seconds increment per move, and will be played through the Tornelo platform in accordance with FIDE’s hybrid and fair play regulations. Players will be grouped into three sections according to their classical FIDE rating: Under 1700, Under 1900, and Under 2200.

This event is a fantastic opportunity for Dominican players to gain or improve their official FIDE rating and to experience international competition right here at home,” said Carlton Morvan, President of the Dominica Chess Federation. “It also provides an excellent platform for players to sharpen their skills and prepare for future tournaments abroad.

The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
