Roseau Dominica March 31st 2023, The Dominica Red Cross in its disaster preparedness activities continues to build resilience, by promoting disaster preparedness, risk reduction and early warning initiatives in communities, through its Community Disaster Response Training (CDRT) programs.
For the 2022- 2023 program period, the National society trained persons in the communities of Bense, Anse De mai and Ans Sol dat. The Community group was instructed in Climate change, Elements of a resilient community, Disaster Management, Disaster Preparedness, Conducting Assessments, Communications, Psychosocial Support, and Light Search and Rescue. The teams were equipped with various items to prepare and assist them in their mitigation and response activities. Community members were also engaged in developing their own community disaster plans and mapping of their communities to identify areas prone to hazards and to facilitate evacuation in the event the need arises.
At the Closing Ceremony held on the 30th March 2023, the parliamentary representative for the constituency Miss Lakeyia Joseph , congratulated the participants of the program on their successful completion of the program and thanked the Dominica Red Cross for this significant contribution to the community in Disaster preparedness. Various response equipment was also presented to the Village Council in support of the community’s response activities.
