With profound sadness, yet deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Catherine Samuel (née Lawrence), affectionately known as “Ma Chupom,” of Rivière Cyrique.
Catherine departed this life peacefully at her residence in Miramar, Florida, on January 15, 2026, at the remarkable age of 101.
Known lovingly by many names—Catherine, Cato, Ma Chupom, Dada, but above all, MAMA—she was a beacon of unwavering love, compassion, and warmth. Catherine’s presence was a blessing to all who knew her; she was the heart of her family and community, nurturing generations with her gentle guidance, open arms, and words of wisdom. Her selfless devotion to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was evident in the countless sacrifices she made, always putting the needs of her loved ones before her own.
Catherine’s passion for culture was infectious, inspiring those around her to cherish their heritage and traditions. She lived her life with genuine respect for others, welcoming everyone into her home and heart. Her faith was her anchor, carrying her through life’s joys and challenges, and leaving a legacy rooted in kindness, humility, and hope.
To know Catherine was to experience true maternal love. She was a mother not only to her family, but to an entire community, offering comfort, wisdom, and unwavering support. Her nurturing spirit touched countless lives, and her memory will forever be cherished by those she leaves behind.
