CURFEW ORDER EXTENDED TO AUGUST 23, 2021, COMPLETE WEEKEND LOCKDOWN ANNOUNCED

The Government of Dominica has extended the COVID-19 Emergency Powers (Curfew) Order for a further seven (7) days, until August 23, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.

A person shall not be out in a public place between the hours of 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday to Friday, except to provide or access essential services.

Cabinet has also decided that a complete lockdown will come into effect from Friday, August 20, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. to Monday, August 23 at 5:00 a.m. A resident may not leave his/her home except if an essential worker, has a written authorisation from the Commissioner of Police, or is seeking urgent medical care.

During this period, the air and seaports will remain open. Petrol stations will remain open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 21 and Sunday, August 22, to facilitate taxis and essential workers.

This lockdown is primarily intended to provide for rest and family time for frontline workers who have been on the job since the start of the second wave of COVID-19 infections in Dominica.

The public is reminded to practice all protective measures to prevent COVID-19 transmission, including the wearing of masks, washing of hands, physical distancing and sanitization of frequently used surfaces. Social gatherings are strictly prohibited.

The Government extends deepest gratitude to the country’s frontline workers for their diligent and committed efforts in this fight and urges all Dominicans to follow the recommended health protocols and stay home.
