Though still in the Christmas season, calypsonians are already getting ready for the 2019 Calypso competitions.

Emonews can confirm that rehearsals for next year’s Calypso competition are already underway. The first show of the season, the Calypso Eliminations, is carded for January 5, 2019. This event normally has a record number of performers.

The Dominica Calypso Association (DCA) has been organizing Calypso competition since its formation in 1978. Before the establishment of the DCA, Calypso competitions were staged by the Carnival Organizing Committee (COC).

Daryl Bobb,(The Bobb), is the reigning Calypso Monarch of Dominica; and he will defend the title at the grand Kaiso Finals on March 2, 2019. There will also be the Calypso Quarter and Semifinals before the finals; Emonews will confirm these dates in a subsequent story.
