Earlier this month, the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Senior Men’s Selection Panel announced the players selected to represent the West Indies A Team in two four-day first class matches followed by three 50 over matches, against the Bangladesh A Team.
The games, which are held at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St. Lucia, went on the way from August 4, 2022 and will culminate on August 20, 2022. Dominican batsman Alick Athanaze was named to represent the West Indies A Team, in both the one-day format and the four-day tests. The both teams are captained by experienced wicket-keeper batsman, Joshua Da Silva.
In the second test match held August 4to 13, 2022, Athanaze scored an impressive 82 runs off 121 balls. Upon interview with Emonews, he expressed, “To be honest I really felt good. My preparation going into the games and the clarity of my role in the team, helped a lot with my success.” According to Athanaze, the playing conditions of the first test were a bit more rigid however he believed that he did fairly well with the bat. “This helped me gain more confidence going into the second test which explains the fluency in which I batted. I just want to thank everyone for all the support and congratulatory messages after the games,” he added.
Bangladesh’s tour of the West Indies will continue on August 16, 2022 at 9:30am, as the first one-day match gets on the way at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground.
