Second annual programme grows by nearly 20 per cent, extending support across allied health, engineering, law, education and business

The Association of Dominicans in the Northeast, USA (ADNExUS) today announced the recipients of its second annual scholarship programme, awarding a total of US$10,000 to six Dominican students pursuing higher education across the Caribbean, the United States and Canada. The sum marks a significant increase on the US$8,500 awarded to four students in the programme’s inaugural year, underscoring ADNExUS’s growing commitment to easing the financial pressures facing young Dominicans as they pursue their academic ambitions.

This year’s scholars are pursuing studies in allied health science, civil engineering, economics, education, law and mechanical engineering, reflecting the breadth of fields in which ADNExUS hopes to see Dominican talent flourish. The recipients were selected for their academic achievement, community involvement and demonstrated determination to contribute to Dominica’s development.

“Investing in human resources is one of the most effective ways to build a resilient and prosperous future for Dominica,” said Sylma Brown, president of ADNExUS. “Expanding our support to six students this year reflects our continued commitment to alleviating the financial strains of higher education for deserving scholars. Human capital is the most valuable resource any nation has, and we are proud to play our part in developing it.”

Meet the 2026 ADNExUS Scholars

Rosalyn Frederick — US$2,000: Rosalyn is pursuing a master’s degree in education, specialising in curriculum and instruction, at Midwestern State University.

“Your support will make a meaningful difference as I continue pursuing my academic and professional goals,” she said.

Rivaldo Panthier (Copthall, Dominica) — US$2,000: Rivaldo is completing a four-year degree in civil engineering at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville.

“Your support has not only helped ease some of the financial challenges of pursuing my engineering degree but has also strengthened my determination to continue striving for excellence,” he said. “This encouragement motivates me to remain focused on my studies, maintain a high standard of academic performance and develop the knowledge and skills needed to make a positive contribution in my profession and to the development of my country.”

Chelsea Ryan (The Bronx, NY) — US$2,000: Chelsea is studying allied health science, with a focus on sonography, at Monroe University.

“I strongly believe that the way to show appreciation is always to give back to the community, so I am open to volunteering with your organisation whenever the opportunity presents itself,” she said.

Jordin Telemaque-Phillip (Orange, NJ) — US$2,000: Jordin is studying economics, with a focus on business analysis and marketing, at Seton Hall University.

“This scholarship will allow me to focus more of my time on my studies and relieve some of the financial burdens of college,” she said. “Thank you for believing in me and investing in my future.”

Shannia Drigo (Warner, Dominica) — US$1,000: A returning ADNExUS scholar, Shannia is continuing her Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados.

“A dream come true once more, thank you ADNExUS for believing in me,” she said. “This scholarship shows that my hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed. Every late night and every early morning spent on my degree has been worth it.”

Chaelle James (Wallhouse, Dominica) — US$1,000: Also a returning scholar, Chaelle is an incoming mechanical engineering student at York University in Canada, specialising in renewable energy and sustainability.

“The continued support has made a difference in my educational journey and motivates me to keep working towards my goals. Thank you for believing in my potential and for investing in my future.”

A Commitment to Paying It Forward

In alignment with the organisation’s core principles, all scholars are asked to participate in the ADNExUS “Pay It Forward” initiative. Recipients contribute time, mentorship, or technical skills to community projects, ensuring the benefits of higher education extend beyond individual career goals to support the broader diaspora and local communities in Dominica. The requirement is designed to sustain the programme over the long term while embedding a culture of mentorship and reciprocity among its beneficiaries.
