Updated Death Announcement of 97 year old John Maurice Joseph also known as Teacher Maurice, Uncle Moy or Moy of Portsmouth

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of 97 year old John Maurice Joseph also known as Teacher Maurice, Uncle Moy or Moy of Portsmouth.  He passed away on Saturday 21st September 2024 at his residence.

He was a former Primary School Principal, Lay Minister, First Secretary of the Portsmouth Cooperative Credit Union, recipient of the Benemerentin Medal and Medal of Honor by the Government of Dominica, Election Officer, GCE and CXC Administrator, Church Organist and a Scout Master.

He is survived by his children: Marie Kathleen Lyons, Geraldine John, Augustus ( Cycus) Joseph

Adopted Son: Cyril Paul (Cee Jones)

Grandchildren: Roberta Smith, Nadrina John, K’Aura Williams, Shernicia Celaire and Kadeen Lyons.

Great Grand Children: Xavier and Christopher Smith, Terence Delaby, Aria, Mila and Nya Williams, Alora Lyons

Daughter in Law: Frances Joseph

Son in Law – Cleve Lyons

Cousins in Law – Fr. Elveau Augustine, Uri, Haneka, Lucia, Clyde, Burke, Arlington, Roosevelt and Nurse Mary Parillon

Sisters: Angelina Williams, Maurina John and Regina Beazer

Numerous Nieces including – Junie, Francisca, Seraphine, Justina, Jennifer, Judith, Jeanette, Merle, Maryta, Edilia, Pamela

Several Nephews including – Lincoln, Arthur, John, Vincent, Lambert

Cousin Virgina (A-poor) Paul and Family

Caretakers: Theodora Paul, Floreta George, Gilma Lazare and Mathilda Panthier

Close Friends: Wayne Abraham, Vanya, Jane, Augustus St Jean, Juliana, Augustus, Mrs. Burton, Mrs. Augustin, the Douglas, Paul, Williams, Joseph, Peter, John, Cognet and Beazer Families. The Communities of Portsmouth and its surroundings areas, Bourne, Tourcarie, Penville, Vieille Case, Dublanc and Marigot, the numerous students he taught. Many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

The Funeral will be held on Tuesday 22nd October 2024 at the Portsmouth Roman Catholic Church. Viewing at 2.30 p.m and Mass: 3:00 p.m. Interment at the Portsmouth Roman Catholic Cemetery.
