Tortola, British Virgin Islands
Defender Eustace Marshall scored his most important goal to date, as he headed home what turned out to be the winner as Dominica beat the British Virgin Islands at the A.O Shirley Recreational ground in Tortola to move to the top of Group C, and more importantly qualify for League B of the Concacaf Nations League with a game to spare.
Dominica entered the match needing to at least avoid a defeat to the BVI to qualify for the next phase of the Concacaf Nation’s League.
The Nature boys started the game creating a number of chances, winger Javid George came the closest hitting the wood works, but despite all the possession and opportunities Dominica couldn’t break the deadlock and the two teams went into the half time break locked at 0-0.
In the second half Dominica kept up the pressure and Audel Laville finally got the breakthrough putting Dominica in the lead in the 52nd minute of play.
The national team had a few more chances to double their advantage but again couldn’t convert, and then suffered for their missed chances.
T’Sharne Gallimore pounced on a mistake at the back, and equalized for the British Virgin Islands in the 63rd minute of play.
Despite surrendering the lead, the National team kept the pressure on and Esustace Marshall headed home what turned out to be the winning goal in 68th minute.
Marshall headed home off a corner kick from Donte Warrington to put Dominica in front 2-1.
The team then withheld a late run from the BVI to secure a 2-1.
With the win Dominica has moved to the top of Group C with 7 points with one more game to spare.
The win means that Dominica will be promoted to League B in the next Concacaf Nations League.
Head Coach of the Team Ellington Sabin and Team Captain Glenson Prince addressed the media after the game.
