The Minister of National Security and Legal Affairs, Honorable Rayburn Blackmoore, at their second community outreach program held in Bath Estate on Thursday evening has called for an improved community police relationship which will cater to achieve a safe environment while eradicating the suspicions that exist between public and the police.
Mr. Blackmoore further stated that in order to restore a good relationship between the public and the police, they ought to get to know each other better. Should the public and the police interact more, the problems they face will be more transparent.
The Minister also highlighted the need to depart from the era where police officers who are resident in an area should not be stationed at an outstation in their community.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Police, Daniel Carbon called on police officers to take ownership of the program to make it successful. He said that police officers who hold inspector ranks must be present at these activities and must own the program to make it successful. The officers are further urged to create good relations with the community to stop crime.
Finally, Nadia Riviere who is a community leader in Bath estate also lamented that the residents of Bath Estate should foster stronger ties within the communities. The presence of that relationship will identify and solve community problems. She encouraged the residents to think of their family members and consider becoming active allies in an effort to enhance the safety and quality of the neighborhood.
