Minister for Housing, Hon. Reginald Austrie announced that Government has plans in place to reduce housing registration fees in Dominica.
He says, “We can speak to the Amendment to the Title by Registration Act which allows for the reduction in title registration fees,”
He said that this will allow persons to be able to legally own their lands as it has been noticed that the present fee of 12.5% is standing in persons way.
“And so you have many Dominicans with land but nothing to show for it in terms of a legal document, because they couldn’t afford to register those properties.”
He said, “We are hoping that this measure will encourage and urge individuals to get their properties registered, because there are many benefits of having a registered title in your hands”.
Government had announced last year that there will be a reduction in land registration fees from 12.5% to 8.5% during the period September 1, 2020, to August 2, 2021.
