Farmers Encouraged To Take Advantage Of CERC Initiative

Public officer turned agro processor and now farmer, Don Corriette is one of the beneficiaries of the Contingency Emergency Response Component(CERC) of the Dominica Emergency Agricultural Livelihoods and Climate Resilience Project(DEALCRP).

Corriette praises the CERC and encourages farmers to take advantage of what it has to offer.

He said, “I want to express my thanks to the Ministry of Agriculture for coming to my assistance.  Most media are aware that I am a public officer for many, many years, but since I am on leave and I have my own agro processing business, Carl’s Pepper Sauce, I need to go into own production of peppers in a small scale backyard gardening…This will come a long way in assisting us in our production, growing our own organic peppers”.

Corriette encouraged other farmers to take advantage of the process and to make good use of of it.

Meanwhile, Warehouse Supervisor Neesah Francis said that distribution has been ongoing and turned out to be an easier process than when distributing to regular farmers since they are able to package the items before distribution. She said that a typical package contains potting soil, organic fertilizer, seeds, seedling trays, hoes, forks, shovels and watering cans. About 124 packages have been handed out so far.

The production of vegetable seedlings is one aspect of the CERC whose main purpose is food security.
