75 Percent Of Positive COVID-19 Cases Were Asymptomatic

National epidemiologist, Dr. Shaluddin Ahmed revealed on Tuesday evening that only 4 out of the 16 positive COVID-19 cases showed symptoms prior to a diagnosis. The major symptoms experienced were fever, shortness of breath, diarrhea and loss of the senses of smell and taste.

Further, of the 16 positive cases in Dominica, 3 were external; 2 of the 3 had a travel history while the other had contact with a group of tourists. The 13 other positive cases were contacts of the LaRoche and Concord cases.

Specifically, of the 16 cases, there were 11 males and 5 females whose age ranged from 18-84 years with a median age 52 years.

6 of the 16 cases have chronic diseases namely hypertension and diabetes. No patients  have had need for ventilators and there have been no fatalities.

It has been 21 days since the last reported positive COVID-19 case in Dominica.
