The Ministry of Health continues its efforts at preparing health professionals to deal with the deadly Coronavirus known as COVID-19. While there are no recorded cases on island, the old adage comes to mind that prevention is better than cure.
On March 23, front line workers took part in an Infection Control Workshop conducted by Yvonne Martindale who is a Hospital Infection Control Officer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados and a Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) adviser.
Martindale said that the response from the participants is very positive and she hopes that the recommendations given will be implemented.
She said further, “I will advise the public in general to make sure that they get their information from reputable sources,…practice good hand hygiene, try to keep your hand out of your face and nose and mouth and if you are obviously sick, seek medical attention early and eat well; good nutrition, keep hydrated and if you have chronic illnesses try as much as possible to keep them under control”.
