First African American To Have Study Bible And Bible Commentary

Dr. Anthony (Tony) Evans, pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Texas is known worldwide for his radio broadcast ‘The Alternative’ and the ‘Adopt a School Initiative’. He has added another illustrious title to his name becoming the first African American to publish a Study Bible and Bible Commentary.

Evans writes in the opening instructions of the commentary, “Paying attention to context is extremely important if you want to accurately understand what the Bible is saying. If you don’t pay attention to the context, you are in danger of trying to make the Bible say something that it doesn’t actually say”.

Speaking to Religion News Service about the reason for the commentary, Evans said, ” It’s seven years of intense work, but the reason for it is to promote a specific worldview. I believe the Bible has a very specific worldview, which is the glory of God through the advancement of his kingdom. And so I wanted to thread that worldview through the Bible and the commentary”.
