Dominican Cyclist Participates in Tobago Cycling Classic International

Bram Sanderson was a participant in the recently concluded Tobago Cycling Classic International, a 5-day stage race event. He placed 6th after having gained a total of 18 points. At each stage of the competition, there is a total amount of points a participant receives for a top ten position.

Sanderson participated as an individual cyclist and so could only register in the division 2 elite which has a total of 4 stages. Although he had the wrong location of the start point for stage 1 and so could not take part, he placed 8th in stage 2, a three-lap course of 35.6 miles, with a time of 1hr:45mins.

Sanderson said that he had a few challenges and thanks to Mario Robin of Wesley who helped him with finances to purchase food and water for the rest of the competition.”Because of his support, I could fuel my body sufficiently after and before every race to get the best of my body.”

He came in 5th after Stage 3, completing a criterium of 25 laps equivalent to 18 miles. His finish time was 45min.03secs.Sanderson placed 3rd, with a finish time of 36 mins 09 secs, after stage 4 which consisted of 25 laps, a total of 15 miles.

Sanderson had to use every available resource to get to this event but is extremely satisfied to have been available to participate.”I was able to get to the event by buying a one-way flight and booking a guest house with the use of all my savings. My uncle, Quammie Sanderson bought my return ticket later. From October 9-18, I was accommodated by my kayak colleague, Nicholas Robinson in Trinidad, where I spent my days training on a kayak. I also did two more cycling races.”

Sanderson said that he is now focused on preparation for the Caribbean Championship in Cuba which is carded for November 1- 3, 2019.
