It was music, music and more music at the launching of former United Workers Party candidate Joseph Isaac, now DLP hopeful for the Roseau North Constituency. Isaac who is the present Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Central Constituency crossed over to the DLP and was launched on the Goodwill Savannah last evening as the candidate for Roseau North. He says that his political ambition is to put Dominica first and to care for the people of the Roseau North Constituency and all the people of the Roseau Constituencies.
Isaac said that Roseau North is in his blood and spoke of all his family who inhabits Pottersville, Goodwill, Didier, and Fond Cole. He spoke of childhood days in Gutter with his family and of his father discussing politics with Ma Harris a champion Labourite of Yampiece. “That’s where I come from. My DNA is planted in Roseau North,” he said.
Throughout his speech, Isaac spoke of travelling with the Prime Minister and spending time with such a visionary who is respected throughout the Caribbean by other leaders as a big brother. He said, “My decision to put Dominica first instead of party was an endorsement of the Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit as the best man to lead the country”. He said that the Prime Minister has repeatedly shown vision to guide this country through troubled waters.
Issac points to the playing field being renovated as work in the community. His dream is that the fields will hold sporting events and concerts to show that Roseau North has the best sportsmen and diverse musicians.
Isaac sees Roseau North as a hub for economic activity. He said that the Dominica/China Friendship Hospital is poised to grow and will mean more jobs. He said that the Government is geared towards health tourism. He also mentioned the Government’s effort to irradicate damaged homes and the massive move to remove tuition fees at the DSC. He said that this has created an opportunity for young men to become certified.
Isaac is committed to facilitating the dreams of young people whether it is urban agriculture, a mechanic shop or a car wash. He is calling on “the ‘Ghetto Youth’ on de block to run with me let me promote you to higher heights”. His goals for the constituency are for the multi-use fields to be rehabilitated and lit, for vibrant, climate-resilient fishing at Fond Cole and Pottersville, more jobs in construction, retail, manufacturing, and hospitality. He cautioned the people not to be jealous of their neighbors and hinted that such housing projects similar to the one at Belle Vue Chopin will be theirs as well.
Isaac lamented that the people of the Roseau North Constituency need representation as the present Parliamentary Representative has shown time and again that “he has not the capacity to lead this community”. He said that while seated next to him at a function he said to him, “Danny, you know that I am the better man, just give up”. Isaac said that by the look on Lugay’s face one could tell that he agrees but that he is afraid of Lennox.
Joseph Isaac will face Danny Lugay of the UWP in the Roseau North Constituency.
