The United Progressive Party (UPP), under the leadership of  Joshua Francis, recognizes the immense potential of geothermal energy as a transformative  resource for Dominica.  

The United Progressive Party (UPP) supports the development of geothermal energy as a means of  reducing electricity costs, improving energy reliability, creating jobs, and strengthening Dominica’s  energy independence.  

However, while Dominicans have been promised cheaper, cleaner, and more reliable energy,  many continue to experience frequent power outages and uncertainty about when the benefits of  geothermal energy will be realized.  

The people deserve clear answers:  

Promised Benefits 

 Lower electricity bills 

 Fewer power outages 

 Energy independence 

 Job creation and economic growth 

 A cleaner environment  

Current Concerns 

 Frequent electricity disruptions 

 Business and household losses due to outages 

 Lack of clarity on timelines and expected savings 

 Questions about project costs and accountability  

The UPP is calling on the Government and relevant authorities to provide a clear update on the  status of the geothermal project, including when consumers can expect improved service and  reduced electricity costs.  

Geothermal energy has the potential to be a gamechanger for Dominica, but the true measure of  success will not be in promises made—it will be in results delivered to the people.  

The United Progressive Party remains committed to advocating for transparency, accountability,  and policies that place the interests of the people first. Dominica’s natural resources belong to the  people of Dominica. The benefits derived from those resources must likewise flow to the people.
