Girl Guides Association of Dominica to Hold Annual General Meeting

The Girl Guides Association of Dominica will host its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. at the Goodwill Primary School Auditorium under the theme “Honoring Our Roots, Proud Past, Progressive Future.”

The meeting will bring together Guides, leaders, volunteers, supporters, and invited guests to reflect on the Association’s achievements over the past year and chart the way forward for the future of Guiding in Dominica.

The official session will be graced by Her Excellency, Chief Guide Mrs. Sylvanie Burton, President of the Commonwealth of Dominica and Mayor of Roseau Lucy Belle-Matthew. Agenda will include the National Anthem, prayer, welcome remarks, performances by various Guide units, presentation of reports, special awards, featured Speaker Brendalyn Bazil and remarks from the Honourable Gretta Roberts, Minister for Culture, Youth and Community Development.

A highlight of the AGM will be the presentation of the Chief Commissioner’s Report by Ms. W. Valencia Webb. In her report, the Chief Commissioner describes the past year as one of growth, achievement, and renewed enthusiasm. The Association recorded a significant increase in membership, with more girls and young women joining units across the island. Members participated in leadership development programmes, environmental initiatives, community outreach projects, educational workshops, and outdoor activities designed to build confidence, teamwork, and resilience.

The report also highlights the expansion of several Guide units and continued investment in leader training and development. According to the Chief Commissioner, the dedication of leaders, volunteers, parents, and community partners has been instrumental in creating meaningful opportunities for girls and young women throughout Dominica.

Following the official session, members will convene for the business session where elections will be held for several key leadership positions, including Chief Commissioner, Assistant Chief Commissioner, International Commissioner, Treasurer, and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer.

The AGM will also include the adoption of the agenda, confirmation of minutes, and discussions on matters concerning the continued growth and development of the Association.

As the Girl Guides Association of Dominica celebrates another successful year, members remain committed to expanding their reach, strengthening programmes, and empowering more girls to become confident, responsible, and active citizens. The meeting is expected to reaffirm the Association’s dedication to developing young women and preserving the values of Guiding while embracing new opportunities for the future.
