DOWASCO to Host Water Week 2026 with Focus on Water and Gender Equality

In recognition of World Water Day, observed annually on March 22, the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Limited (DOWASCO) will host Water Week 2026 from March 22 to March 28, 2026, under the global theme “Water’s Role in Gender Equality.”

This observance highlights the importance of freshwater resources and promotes the sustainable management of water worldwide. The 2026 theme underscores the need for equitable access to water resources and recognizes the different ways water management and accessibility impact communities.

The week will commence on Sunday, March 22, with DOWASCO joining God’s Family House of Worship in Portsmouth for a church service. Activities will continue on Monday, March 23, with the official opening ceremony of Water Week, followed by one of the featured events, an Interschool Trivia Competition at 10:00 a.m. at the University of the West Indies Auditorium. Secondary schools from across the island will participate in this friendly competition, which will test students’ knowledge of water-related topics and provide them with an opportunity to win prizes.

Throughout the week, DOWASCO will host several public engagement activities. From Monday, March 23 to Thursday, March 26, a daily draw will give one lucky customer the chance to win one month of free water service. On Friday, March 27, customers will have the opportunity to participate in a “Spin the Wheel and Win” promotion for one hour, featuring prizes including one month of free service and other tokens.

Friday will also be observed as Customer Appreciation Day. Customers are invited to visit DOWASCO offices in Roseau and Portsmouth to view a mini exhibition and enjoy light refreshments.

On Tuesday, DOWASCO will join partners from the Dominica Meteorological Office, Forestry Division, Solid Waste Management Corporation, and the Caribbean Youth Environmental Network for a panel discussion on Water and Gender on DBS Radio.

On Wednesday and Thursday, schools are invited to tour DOWASCO’s facility at Antrim, while staff will also visit schools across the island to deliver presentations on the journey of water from source to tap.

DOWASCO encourages the public, schools, and community partners to support and participate in Water Week 2026, as Dominica joins the global community in recognizing the vital role water plays in sustainable development and everyday life.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
