BPW Dominica Highlights Local SDG Implementation at Private Sector Resilience Alignment Forum

Business and Professional Women (BPW) Dominica reaffirmed its commitment to national resilience and sustainable development during the Dominica Private Sector Resilience Alignment Forum, where President Rhoda St. John addressed participants on the organization’s role in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level.

In her briefing, President St. John underscored the importance of women’s leadership, private sector engagement, and civil society collaboration in strengthening Dominica’s climate-resilient recovery and long-term development agenda.

“Resilient recovery requires more than infrastructure; it requires inclusive leadership, empowered communities, and strategic partnerships,” President St. John stated. “BPW Dominica contributes to this process by aligning our programmes, advocacy, and leadership development initiatives with national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals.”

As part of a global federation with consultative status and active participation within the United Nations system, BPW operates across national, regional, and international platforms to advance gender equality, inclusive economic participation, and sustainable development. BPW Dominica’s local programming is strategically aligned with the SDGs, particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), while supporting broader goals related to climate action, decent work, and resilient communities.

President St. John highlighted BPW Dominica’s contribution to resilience through:

 • Advocacy for women’s leadership and participation in decision-making and governance

 • Private sector engagement and business continuity awareness

 • Community-based initiatives addressing gender-based violence, social cohesion, and empowerment

 • Youth and professional development programmes that build future resilience leaders

She also emphasized that effective climate-resilient recovery requires an active and coordinated private sector and civil society, noting that BPW members represent diverse professional sectors and are well positioned to contribute expertise, innovation, and leadership to national resilience efforts.

BPW Dominica welcomed the opportunity to participate in the Private Sector Resilience Alignment Forum and expressed its readiness to continue working alongside government, private sector stakeholders, and development partners to advance a coordinated and inclusive resilience agenda.

“BPW stands ready to serve as a strategic partner in Dominica’s resilience journey—locally grounded, globally connected, and firmly committed to sustainable development,” President St. John concluded.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
