The Government of Saint Lucia under the leadership of Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre, continues to prioritize the growth of the apiculture sector. On Friday, December 5th, 2024, at the 12th Caribbean Beekeeping Congress and the 4th OECS Hewanorra Honey Show, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing the industry, empowering local beekeepers, and supporting sustainable agriculture.
The Government of Saint Lucia contributed XCD 64,000 to support the Beekeepers Conference and Honey Show, enabling it to host participants from 14 countries in Saint Lucia.
Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre also recognized Donson Stanley’s remarkable achievement last year in winning the International Prize for Best Honey. This year, Saint Lucia has once again claimed the top prize, with three of its beekeepers ranking among the top five over the past three years since entering the competition. These achievements further cement Saint Lucia’s status as a global leader in apiculture.
Other initiatives like emergency training for over 40 beekeepers, focusing on harvesting and production techniques, further demonstrate the government’s dedication to encouraging innovation, protecting the environment, and enhancing economic opportunities for beekeepers.
