Dominica has achieved a historic milestone as Thea Lafond-Gadson, from the community of Mahaut, has become the nation’s first-ever Olympic champion. Competing in the triple-jump event, Thea made history with a winning leap of 15.02 meters, thus earning the first gold medal for our country, Dominica.

In recognition of her extraordinary achievement, the National Bank of Dominica Ltd. (NBD) has proudly rewarded Thea with EC$10,000 for each meter of her historic jump, thus making for a total reward of $150,200.00. This gesture highlights the Bank’s commitment to recognizing excellence and supporting the aspirations and achievements of the people of Dominica.

To celebrate this momentous achievement, a special Meet-and-Greet was held at the National Bank of Dominica Ltd., where staff members had the opportunity to interact with the Olympic champion. The event was filled with joy as employees shared in the celebration of her outstanding achievement. In expressing the overwhelming pride felt by Team NBD, Carla Roudette, from the Office of the Managing Director, shared: “We have admired Thea through her eloquent engagements over the last few weeks and her love for her homeland, Dominica. We are extremely proud of your achievements. Words can’t express the pride we continue to feel.”

In her remarks, Thea conveyed her gratitude to the National Bank of Dominica Ltd., and complimented the Bank, among other things, for its human resource development efforts. Her words resonated with the staff and reinforced the Bank’s dedication to community development and empowerment.
