The Diocese of Roseau will this Sunday 4th February observe World Marriage Day. Hundreds of couples from across the Diocese will converge on the host parish, Our Lady of Fair Haven, Roseau for the event. Among couples expected to attend is the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton and Mr Burton, an encountered couple for over 25 years.
The activity will begin with an Eucharistic celebration from 9.00am, to be presided over by Monsignor William Jno. Lewis, Delegate of the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Roseau and Fr. Nigel Karam, Dean of the Roseau Cathedral. This will be followed by a Brunch Reception and entertainment at the St Martin’s School grounds.
Sunday’s event will be the 10th anniversary of the celebration of World Marriage Day in the Diocese of Roseau. Consequently couples from across the Diocese celebrating 10 years of marriage will be recognized. Appreciation will also be expressed to couples who have served in the Marriage and Engaged Encounter Ministries for 10 years and more. Special recognition will also be given to golden married couples, that is those married for more than 50 years, as well as an Exemplary couple of the Cathedral Parish.
World Marriage Day celebrations began in 1982 and celebrates husband and wife as the foundation of the family and sees family as the basic unit of society. The theme for World Marriage Day 2024 is “Love Beyond Words”, emphasizing that the permanent, faithful and fruitful love in a sacramental marriage is truly beyond words.
World Marriage Day 2024 is coordinated by the Worldwide Marriage Encounter and Catholic Engaged Encounter Community, in collaboration with Our Lady of Fair Haven Cathedral Parish and the Diocesan Family Life Commission.
