After reported missing on February 27, 2022 by his family, the body of 58-year old David Aires Esprit of Campbell was found in a state of decomposition in the Layou valley area on March 20, 2022.
A twenty-one (21) year old male of Mahaut, Akim Jno Lewis who was jointly charged with the murder of Esprit in March of 2022, was granted bail on Friday 21st July, 2023 in the sum of $50,000. Mother of the accused, Athenia Esprit stood as his surety.
The court outlined the conditions for bail, highlighting that the accused must reside with his mother in Belles in the parish of St. Joseph at all times. Further, he is to report to the Mahaut Police Station on Fridays between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm.
The accused is further prohibited from leaving the jurisdiction of the Court without leave from the Court and shall not communicate in any manner or form, whether directly or indirectly by any medium, with any witnesses in the matter.
Any breaches of the conditions set forth shall render the bail revoked and the surety liable to forfeiture.
