50 Thousand Canadian Dollars To Fund Community Based Project For Awareness Campaign On Violence Against Women And Children

The East Dominica Children Federation has successfully written for and been awarded $50,000 CAD to go towards implementing community-based projects to continue raising awareness on violence against vulnerable groups.

Director of the East Dominica Children Federation Velma Moses-Joseph explained that this stemmed from a successful Drive Thru awareness campaign held last year under the theme ‘Step Up, Step Out, Shout Out’.

“As a result of the drive thru, the people wanted to know what more can they do about domestic violence, gender based violence, child protection, so hence the reason why we thought of putting these workshops together. We want to raise awareness and empower people to do something about violence against humanities in their communities.”

The project will be implemented in 12 communities across the eastern part of the island from the Kalinago Territory to Calibishie and is being funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiative.
