PAHO Director Discusses Opportunities for Collaboration During Visit to University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus

Director of the Pan American Health Organization, Dr Jarbas Barbosa, today met with the Principal of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, Professor Clive Landis, as well as several members of staff of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, the George Alleyne Chronic Disease Research Centre and the Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies. Dr Barbosa was accompanied by the PAHO Subregional Program Director of the Caribbean Subregional Program Coordination Office, Mr Dean Chambliss.

The Director pointed out that the University was critical to supporting Caribbean countries and encouraged greater collaboration to support public health priorities of Caribbean countries. The group discussed ways to deepen the partnership between the two Organisations, in particular, related to practical measures for NCD prevention and management, communicable disease control, capacity building, and improving the health literacy of the people of the region.
