Trinidad and Tobago Crowned West Indies Rising Stars Under 15 Champions

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Trinidad and Tobago’s young cricket stars shined brightly as they clinched the West Indies Rising Stars Under 15 Championship title, defeating the Leeward Islands by six wickets, in an exciting final match at the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG), Antigua.

The Leeward Islands, led by Captain Matthew Miller, put up a spirited fight, scoring a total of 162 runs from 48 overs. Miller and Jaheem Clarke built a solid partnership, displaying resilience against Trinidad and Tobago’s skilled spinners, Yasir Deen and Alejandro Kassiram.

In response, Trinidad and Tobago’s opening duo, Christian Lall and Dimitri Ramjattan, started strongly with a 77-run partnership. Lall’s impressive half-century provided the foundation for the team’s successful chase completed in just 35 overs. Yasir Deen scored the winning run, bringing home the West Indies Rising Stars Under 15s Championship title.

Windward Islands and Guyana end Championship on a high note

The Windward Islands celebrated a four-wicket win over Jamaica at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium (SVRS) to finish 2nd in the table thanks to their superior pace bowling bonus points. Jamaica scored 146 runs, with top contributions from Demarco Scott and Odane Binns. Windward Islands’ Theo Edward led the bowling with an impressive 4-wicket haul, conceding just 27 runs,  ripping through the Jamaica’s tail end to curtail their innings. Edward opened the batting for the Windwards setting a platform for victory and top scoring with 59 runs.

Meanwhile, Guyana delivered a decisive victory against last year’s winners, Barbados, at the Liberta Sports Ground to take 3rd place in this season’s Risings Stars Championship table. The Guyanese team showcased a dominant bowling attack, with Arun Gainda, captain Dave Mohabir, and Jonathan Mentore taking three wickets each as Barbados could only post a total of 69 runs from 20 overs . Guyana cruised to comfortable seven-wicket win reaching the 70 runs required to win in 23 overs.

The West Indies Rising Stars Under 15 Championship highlighted the bright future of cricket in the region, as the participating teams displayed skill, sportsmanship, and a passion for the game. Cricket West Indies (CWI) Director of Cricket, Jimmy Adams congratulated all the teams and players on their performances and said to the potential future pool of West Indies men’s players,  “Under 15s cricket represents for CWI the first opportunity, as we strategically plan for a successful West Indies cricket future, to look at the young talent we have throughout the region. This is the starting point for us to produce international players. You (the players) are now part of a bigger West Indies plan.”
