Roseau, Dominica. The Fernance and Cyrilla Family Club (FCFC) which has under its umbrella the Stories by Children (SBC) initiative, wishes to thank the general public and well-wishers for their support throughout the years.
You will recall that the Stories by Children Committee has already compiled and launched two books containing interesting short stories and poems all written by children in Dominica and the diaspora. Stories by Children, Volume I: “Family” and Stories by Children, Volume 2: “When I Grow Up” are now available for sale on Amazon, at Jays Book Store, and from committee members.
In January 2023, Stories by Children launched its annual literary competition under the theme, “Connect the Dots!” All children, in Dominica and the diaspora, are encouraged to submit their stories.
Every story MUST include the following three elements:
• A house at the street corner
• A mango
• A dog
However, the main idea for the piece of writing may be something other than the three elements above.
There will be THREE age categories for the competition: 6 – 9, 10 – 12 and 13 – 16 years. Entries will be judged on creativity, organization, and mechanics. Up to TWELVE winners will be selected, and these winners will have their stories published in Stories by Children Volume 3!
Mrs. Nicole Toussaint Jno-Baptiste, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Fernance and Cyrilla Family Club, said that the Committee is looking forward to receiving interesting stories from these young authors.
The deadline for entering this literary competition is February 28, 2023. Entries can be submitted via the link storiesbychildren.org/competitions.html. For further information or clarification, contact 1-767-2769298.
