On May 29th 2022, the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU) in collaboration with the Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Federation, hosted the “55 Miles for 55 Years” cycling race to observe ABWU’s 55th Anniversary. At the end of the 55-mile race, 19-year-old Kohath Baron of Dominica captured first place, Robert Marsh took second place and Sean Weathered placed third.
Upon Interview with Emonews, Baron expressed, “I felt confident going into the race today because I have been training very hard and wanted to put that training into practice.” Moreover, he noted that the main challenge he faced today was the high winds along most parts of the race route. Nonetheless, given his intense training he was able to overcome this hurdle.
Furthermore, he voiced, “I felt really satisfied when I won that gold especially when I saw the smile on my father’s face after I crossed the finish line.” Baron noted that a number of people were instrumental to his success. “There are a lot of people who push me to be better especially my father. Also, I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for the Dominica Olympic Committee who has been there with me throughout as well as my new family Sagicor who have made me their brand ambassador,” he added.
When asked what is in store for the future, Baron responded that moving forward he looks to continue to improve. “I will keep on training hard as well as work on maintaining my focus mentally,” he ended.
As Baron continues to blaze the cycling trail, Emonews wishes him continued success. Congratulations!
