On January 13th 2022, World Marriage Day was celebrated by couples across the island of Dominica. Bishop Gabriel Malzaire expressed that this day is one of special significance as well as a reminder of the sacred matrimonial commitment between married couples.
According to Malzaire, “This world marriage day is particularly important for the support you feel with so many couples here in Dominica and around the world, who come together to express common sentiment of hopefulness.”
Moreover, he noted that through today’s observation, one can give witness to the value of the sacrament of matrimony. “At the same time, you are witnessing to the young who live within a world-culture which is skeptical about life-long commitment,” he added.
Malzaire took the opportunity to salute and commend all wedded couples, particularly those who are celebrating many years of marriage. “I urge you to continue to support, to pray for, and to affirm each other in moments of trial, try your utmost to work through things through dialogue and prayer. Do not be afraid to share your struggles with other trustworthy couples or individuals. We all need assistance on this rugged journey towards salvation,” he counselled.
Interestingly, it is hoped that through the celebration of this day, couples can embrace the good times and challenges endured throughout the conjugal. “My dear couples please consider yourselves as God’s ambassadors in today’s world. What a privilege you have to shape this world for God,” Malzaire ended.
