On Sunday night’s Annou Pale’ Tours hosted by the Honourable Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, it was announced that big changes are underway for the Petite Savanne and Roseau Central Constituency.
First stop, the new Bagatelle Health Centre was highlighted and is anticipated to open in the coming week, while plans are in the works to demolish the old Health Centre in order to construct apartment structures for Bagatelle residents.
The Prime Minister further mentioned the intended construction of a river wall and pedestrian crossing carded for the community of Fond St. Jean. The section of road from Grand Bay to Bagatelle road was examined to find options on how best to proceed for construction. A sea wall along the Dubique community was also on the list of changes for the constituency.
Over at Pichelin the Prime Minister and entourage re-visited a bridge which needs reconstruction. Plans for the reconstruction, once drawn up will be brought forward to the Pichelin Village Council. The Fab Road which connects Pichelin to Bagatelle is also under evaluation for improvement. This road is most likely to be used as the bypass during the construction of the Loubiere to Bagatelle road. Plans for a Fish Landing Site is also in consideration for the community of Stowe. These plans have already been proposed to the Japanese Government and feedback is being waited on.
Honourable Senator Cassani Laville, Minister for Public Works also shed further light on the Loubiere to Bagatelle road and stated that the project will be completed in two phases. Phase One will extend from Loubiere to Geneva and Phase Two, from Geneva to Bagatelle. He provided that a grant in the sum of $25 million pounds was provided to bring this project to fruition.
A site was also looked at for the construction of homes for residents of the Dubique and Grand Bay Community. A church and community centre will also be constructed in addition to the residential buildings. Contracts are expected to be signed in the upcoming weeks.
The Roseau Central Constituency was next up on the Annou Pale’ Tours and the Prime Minister highlighted that the city is one of the main places that directly impacts the impression made on persons who visit Dominica. Designs are in place to begin construction on Great George Street as part of the Roseau Enhancement Project.
The vicinity of Virgin Lane was also seen as a top priority project in that it serves the students and teachers of the surrounding schools and churches. Furthermore, drainage seems to be an issue within the city and plans are being put in place to address these pressing issues.
The Roseau Health Centre will also see a major makeover as two additional lots have been acquired to build a brand new health centre. Construction is carded to begin on July 1, 2022. The Prime Minister also commended the health care workers for continuing to persevere under such difficult conditions at the current health centre. The final stop at the River Bank apartments culminated the tour. The Prime Minister stated that residents should receive keys in the latter part of this month. The river wall, once finalized will be built in order to secure the length of the apartment buildings.
