The Ministry of the Blue & Green Economy, Agriculture and National Food Security continues in its drive to educate and empower fishers Islandwide with formal training in various aspects of the profession. Although restrictions as per COVID 19 Health Protocols has not allowed for the regularly scheduled Basic Fishermans Training Course, the Division has streamlined the training from five days to three half days face to face with a smaller number of participants.
From December 20-23rd, twenty-two fishers successfully completed the programme and are now more knowledgeable in aspects such as the Fisheries Act and Regulations, Fisherman Registration, Personal Data Collection, Safety at Sea, FADs and Basic Engine Repair. Lead Facilitator was Kurt Hilton Fisheries Officer/ North Region.
To date the BNTF has successfully trained over 2000 fishers islandwide.
