New Protocols For The Re-opening Of Businesses

The new measures approved by the Cabinet for the continued management of COVID-19 have been gazetted today, August 24, 2021 in the Environmental Health Services (COVID-19) Regulations S. R. O 26 of 2021 made by the Minister of Health under the Environmental Health Service Act Chap 42:01.

As previously announced, all businesses or establishments will be allowed to open in accordance with protocols established and published by the Chief Medical Officer with the following exceptions:

  • Restaurants shall be open for takeout and delivery only
  • Barbershops, spas, and hair salons will be open in accordance with the protocols established by the Chief Medical Officer. These protocols have been published and circulated and the Ministry of Health will work closely with these businesses to ensure compliance to the protocols.
  • Hot water spas shall be open under the protocols of the Safe in Nature Programme of the Ministry of Tourism.

The public is advised that opening hours for businesses, which are allowed to open at this time, are from Monday to Friday, 6:00am to 6:00pm and Saturdays, 6:00am to 1:00pm. All business establishments will remain closed on Sundays.

All nightclubs, bars, gaming establishments and gyms will remain closed at this time. These measures, along with other measures outlined in the SRO, are geared at minimizing the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The public is urged to continue to adhere to the health protocols and the measures which have been put in place to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
