Nerissa Williams who hails from the community of Thibaud, is a recent graduate from Medaille College in Bronx, New York.Williams who is the proud daughter of Nalda Thomas began her academic journey at the Thibaud Primary School and received a bursary at the Common Entrance Exams.
She graduated the Dominica State College in 2012 and began her career as an English teacher at the Pierre Charles Secondary School, where she also coached football. At Medaille College, Williams served in many facets on various school boards. She also worked as an orientation leader for international and traditional students, a peer tutor, a library assistant, and a Marketing and Project Management intern.
She says, “My active involvement in campus and community life gained me the meritorious award in the 2019-2020 academic year and a nomination for Student Leader of the Year. I made the Dean’s List every semester, and in October 2019, I was inducted into the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society and was recognized at the Honors’ Convocation for academic excellence. In October 2020, I received the medal for academic excellence, was inducted into the Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society, and in May 2021, I was awarded the Medaille College’s Outstanding Senior award. On May 21, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Management and received the program’s top academic award. I had the honor of being selected as the undergraduate student commencement speaker, the equivalent to the traditional valedictorian speaker”.
According to Williams she intends to pursue a MBA with a concentration in Organizational leadership so that one day she may become the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a fortune 500 corporation.
Williams says, “Thank you is not enough to express how grateful I am to everyone who assisted me. My academic journey and accomplishments could not have been possible without the help of God, the Government of Dominica, my mother Nalda Thomas, my sister Herina and her husband Adrian Julien, the Dominica Football Association, the Medaille College Community, and my friends and family who have stood by my side”.She encourages fellow Dominicans who have dreams of moving from one level to another.
“Do not fear change, instead embrace it; chase your dreams, and do it wholeheartedly. You will undoubtedly encounter obstacles along the way but do not let that deter you. Use these obstacles as motivators because they are just a pit stop along your journey and can never measure up to the growth, experience, and success you will reap in the end.”
