The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has engaged the consultancy firm Grutter Consulting, a world-leading company on matching climate finance with low carbon transport, to realize an assessment of low carbon transport options for the country and to design and financially structure steps towards the implementation of a sustainable and low emission transport sector. The consultancy is financed through a grant from the Green Climate Fund. The largest greenhouse gas emission source of Dominica is the transport sector. Dominica is making important steps towards a green electricity production which could form the backbone for an electrified transport system in the country. The consultancy will prepare a transport emission inventory and model, and will realize a comprehensive analysis of transport emission mitigation options viable for the country including the road sector as well as shipping. This will result in a low carbon transport roadmap which shall enable the country to embark on a financially feasible sustainable development pathway for the transport sector.
This will include three (3) low carbon transport investment options. The consultancy will be realized within the next 12 months and are also linked to the assessment of potentials of using hydrogen for vessels as well as an electrification of the transport sector. Later initiative is under the framework of assessing the feasibility of electrifying the transport sector and is supported by the Swiss foundation Klik. Grutter Consultants, equity partners and other investors are anticipated to execute one of the three (3) investment options to effect a financially feasible low carbon transport project.
