9 Active COVID-19 Cases In Dominica

National Epidemiologist Dr. Shaluddin Ahmed,  told the nation on Monday that there are 9 active cases of COVID-19 on island.

He explained that there were 4 imported cases over the weekend, increasing the total number of active cases to 9. The 4 cases are Dominicans returning from the United States and Guadeloupe.

The individuals had negative PCR tests on arrival and tested positive on day 5 of screening at the quarantine facility where they have been housed since their arrival.

Case 1 and 2 are a 40 year old father and his 12 year old daughter returning from the United States. Case number 3 and 4 are a 20 year old mother and her 4 year old son returning from Guadeloupe. All four cases are asymptomatic.

Meanwhile, Lab Superintendent at the National Hospital, Catherina Jemmot said that Dominica hit the ground running with regards to testing because the Ministry of Health was able to plan early and respond appropriately.

She said that so far 7,100 specimen have been tested for the virus using PCR. This is the same technique used to test for HIV, Dengue and Yellow Fever.
