Youth Division Holds Open Day; Job Attachment Component Nearly Impossible Because Of COVID-19

The Youth Development Division boasts a long history of positively impacting the lives of young persons around the island. The Division has centers in various districts and held its annual open day to display the skills that the young persons have been learning.

Job Development Officer at the Division, Malissa Jno.Lewis said that although the Open Day had to be scaled done this year, it was imperative that it was still held nonetheless.

“This year we decided to have our Open Day virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic but we are happy to still have it. Usually, we invite the parents and supporters who come in and participate and engage the learners, however we are not able to do it this way, this time around.”

Meanwhile, Chief Youth Development Officer, John Roach congratulated the young people and said that they will be the first group to be tested for CVQ Certification and this is something remarkable especially in light of all that they had to face during the pandemic.

According to Roach another challenge brought on by the pandemic is the fact that many businesses involved in the Job Attachment part of the programme have closed and other businesses are unable to accommodate participants because of social distancing protocols. Roach encouraged the students to do their best as only the best will participate in the Job Attachment component.

The participants were involved in various modules including Computer Science,  Hospitality and Woodwork in Roseau, St.Joseph, Portsmouth, Wesley, Castle Bruce and Laplaine.
