The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands is pleased to partner with the Dominica National Council of Women (DNCW), the leading NGO in Dominica which advocates and promotes gender equity. The DNCW received a contribution of EC$15,000 from the Embassy to go towards a pilot project to counter domestic abuse.
The DNCW has selected the small community of Layou where it has a base of 20 women who will serve as the group for this pilot project. The impacts and lessons learnt will be used for further advancement of women all over Dominica.
This Pilot Project serves to achieve the following objectives:
- Prepare women for impending annual natural disasters by equipping them with a knowledge of disaster preparedness.
- Apprise women of means of dealing with abuse and violence during and post disastrous or critical periods.
- Deliberate on measures for immediate livelihood (both fishing and agriculture) rehabilitation.
- Provide seedlings to these family to encourage small back yard farming to sustain their families.
- Provide raw material to Single women parents to produce face masks for both their families and to sell to the public. The anticipated demand will generate funds that would assist their families through the most immediate and critical moments following the onslaught of a natural disaster.
This sponsorship will cover all costs associated with facilitating the successful application and execution of the “PPPAV” project. The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands is proud to collaborate with the DNCW in bringing assistance to the vulnerable in society through this contribution to the Pilot Project To Prepare For Abuse And Violence Against Women.
