More Farmers to receive benefit from CERC

The Government of Dominica has received in excess of three million dollars under the Dominica Emergency Agricultural Livelihoods and Climate Resilience Project (DEALCRP) aimed at ensuring food security in Dominica. The funds were reallocated to the Contingency Emergency Response Component (CERC) to allow for quick access to the resources.

Program Coordinator,  Kervin Stephenson, says that approvals have been made and the various parts of the program are running smoothly.

He outlined a few challenges such as difficulty in getting the products requested by farmers and  the delay of some tools which are expected to arrive in October.

According to him, 204 farmers were paid before the budget and with the reservation of funds,  it is expected that about 330 more will be paid next week through the Credit  Union system. He says that the other batches of farmers are being processed.

CERC was launched in March and has four main components- the Backyard Gardening Program, Cash Payment Program, Livestock Program and Seedlings program.
