Today, Friday 14th 2020, Rainbow Foundation, a nonprofit organization, focusing on facilitating the educational enhancement of underprivileged children, announced that they will again be awarding scholarships to seven deserving students heading to Secondary School this September.
This year, the scholarships will be awarded in memory of one of the foundations beloved benefactors Marina De Borger-Peeters, who died earlier this year from the dreadful disease of cancer.
Seven Scholarships will be awarded this year. Four recipients will receive financial assistance based on their academic achievements, and three will receive assistance based on need as follows:

Collectively over twenty years, this amounts to seventeen scholarships and over eighty thousand dollars in financial assistance, benefitting primarily the Massacre/Canefield Gov’t School. Some of the highlighted projects at the Massacre/Canefield school includes the concrete pavement for student recreation, Lunch shelter, incinerator, Shelter over steps, Green House, Brush Cutter, painting supplies, Fencing, Contributing to the School feeding program, etc.
While this scholarship was established as a one-year program for students leaving primary to secondary school, we are working hard to provide more support in the coming year. Renewal of this scholarship to recipients today is contingent on the availability of funds from our benefactors in the coming year. If adequate funds become available, scholarship recipients will have to maintain an overall grade point average of 70% to necessitate continuance of support.
We remain assured that students’ academic, personal, and religious development will be enriched throughout their studies at their respective secondary schools. We urge the scholarship recipients to carry on the tradition of excellence that has become synonymous with this accolade.
We thank Mr. Walter Peeters, a retired judge, and beloved husband of Marina Del Borger-Peeters, for his love and commitment to his wife, and to the work of the foundation in Belgium, the country where they both reside. We also thank Mathew St. Rose and other benefactors in the Belgium chapter for their continued interest in the enhancement of education of Dominican students, with particular emphasis on Canefield/Massacre.
