Dominica State College Increased the Number of Nurses in Dominica

Stock Farm, July 30, 2020- The Faculty of Health Sciences of the Dominica State College hosted its 8th Pinning and Capping Ceremony, on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at the Berean Bible Church in Bath Estate under the theme “A journey without challenges has no memories.”

The Pinning and Capping ceremony symbolized the handover of the Graduate Nurses to the Nursing Profession. This year 24 nurses were pinned with DSC badges engraved with a lamp – a traditional symbol of nursing. The graduates were also capped with white nurses’ caps by a local nurse leader, Mrs. Celia Maxwell-Hamilton, welcoming them into the Profession of Nursing.

Five students received awards from the college and the General Nursing Council of Dominica. The college awarded Alice John Hope for Academic Excellence, Ulanda Thomas for Excellence in Clinical Practice, and Lucille Francis for leadership and Team Spirit. The General Nursing Council of Dominica awarded Ulanda Thomas for the highest scorer in the recent GNC licensing examination, and Irella Francis and Shanica Baron, for the spirit of nursing.

President of the college, Dr. Donald Peters, expressed his appreciation of the college’s role in training skilled professionals for all sectors of the national economy, particularly our continued successful training of nurses at all levels for Dominica. He stated that achieving a 100% pass rate on the Certificate Program for Nursing exams in a manifestation of how resilient our college has been in its mission to educate the nation.

The Certificate Program in Nursing is offered annually.

The college congratulates all the nurses and is pleased to contribute to the health sector.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
