Girls Continue To Outperform Boys In G6NAT

The Ministry of Education released the results of the Grade Six National Achievement Test (G6NAT) on Monday.

According to data compiled by the Ministry girls have again outperformed boys in the exams. In Language 1 and 2, girls averaged 65.6 and 63.8 respectively compared to 2019 figures of 66.6 and 66.8, while the boys averaged 58.1 and 56 compared to 2019 figures of 60.7 and 59.6.

In math girls averaged 56.3 while boys averaged 53. The 2019 figures for math, girls averaged 62.2 while boys were 59.8.

2020 data also revealed that 50 girls received an A in math while 43 boys received the same, compared to 2019 figures of 48 and 28 respectively.  On the other end more boys received D’s and E’s than girls.

Senior Education Officer with responsibility for Curriculum, Measurement and Evaluation, Robert Guiste said, “In every area, the boys are under performing; the girls are outperforming the boys and in the strong performance area the girls are doing much better than the boys.

Gusite also said that while almost all of the third term was lost, when one considers the scores,  online education although not perfect, did work, as the scores for 2019 and 2020 were almost the same.
