The Minister with responsibility for Trade In Dominica, Hon.Ian Douglas issued a call for farmers to produce more for export.
According to Douglas, the markets and the means of transportation are there; what’s missing is the products.
He said, “At present we have a boat…which goes to Barbados and Barbados literally wants a 20 ft container of Bananas on a fortnightly basis…Right now we have boats supplying the British Virgin Islands, Antigua, Guadeloupe, Montserrat, Anguilla, Martinique on a weekly basis and so it is just for farmers to produce for us. Some of the major crops we talking about are dasheen…plaintains”.
The Minister also spoke about very successful markets for Dasheen in the United Kingdom and Miami.
The Minister of Trade was a guest on the Prime Minister’s Talk Show, Anou Parlay.
