Fellow Dominicans as the Parliamentary Representative for the Salybia Constituency I wish to condemn the acts of armed robbery which occurred recently in the Kalinago Territory. This is especially because I understand such an act to be a criminal offense as it is an aggravated form of theft. I further denounce any behavior that involves the use of a lethal weapon to perpetrate violence or the threat of violence against any particular victim.
I have always been especially concerned about the wellbeing of the Kalinago community and its residents, that’s why I am very disturbed by all form of criminal activities within that space. My distress is especially warranted at this time because armed robbery in itself is a serious crime, and can permanently traumatize its victims both physically and psychologically.
It appears that such acts tend to receive considerable media attention when it occurs, however it must be noted that it carries longer prison terms than other forms of robbery. We are all well aware that armed robbery is typically motivated by the desire to obtain money, but whatever the reason, the act is classified as a violent crime. As citizens I urge everyone to participate in the processes for bringing all offenders of crimes to justice by assisting the authorities in any way necessary.
As the investigations progresses I would like to commend the Dominica Police Force, and more especially the officers posted at the Salybia police station for their swift action. I would also like place on record that my full support stands behind the necessary actions to be taken by the state for ensuring that the Kalinago community and all other areas for that matter, remain safe havens for all within our Dynamic Dominica.
