According to Public Relations Officer of the Dominica Fire and Ambulance Service, Wayne Letang, the initial cause of the fire which destroyed a garage on Victoria Street was the burning of logs and debris on a nearby beach.
Letang said that the Fire and Ambulance service received a call reporting a bush fire about two thirty, then another call came in about ten mins later stating that the fire had spread to some vehicles at a garage. The office alerted the trucks which were out and directed one of them to the fire on Victoria Street.
About 11 vehicles and two buildings were destroyed in the fire.
